Vision’s timber frame bungalow conversion systems offer a lightweight and convenient method for extending your bungalow upwards with an additional storey.
Following the reform of the planning laws in 2020, bungalows can now be extended upwards using a fast-tracked planning process (full planning applications not required) that allows self-builders to look at alternatives to building a completely new build home and instead, converting an existing bungalow that needs a new lease of life.
Not to be confused with a loft conversion, where you can convert an already existing space into an additional room, our timber frame first floor systems offer a completely new storey that will sit on top of your existing ground floor structure creating as many rooms as you require.
The loadings for the timber frame are much lighter than masonry so the need for under-pinning or strengthening the existing foundations are unlikely to be required. Such foundation work is a costly exercise and lengthens the build time.
Vision can work from your planning drawings to provide a fixed cost quotation for the supply and install of your new timber frame structure. This will assist with setting out your budget from the outset and preparing an efficient scope of works for your project.
With the timber frame design underway at the beginning of your project (we suggest engaging your chosen supplier when you have planning approval) it will be factory made whilst your building contractor undertakes the preparation works to your existing structure (depending on the new design, additional structural beams may be required) and then delivered to site with installation of the timber frame taking between 3-4 weeks.
Building onto bungalows are currently a hot commodity with them pushing past loft conversions that may have originally been the chosen method of renovating an existing bungalow within permitted development rights.

From the outset of our Self-Build project to change our 1950’s bungalow into our forever how Vision Development were excellent.
