Vision Development are able to provide a variety of insulation options for their timber frame solutions.  The timber frame panels (whether open or closed panel design) can be adapted to suit client’s specific U Values and requirements offering options for additional insulation to the external face of the panels to address cold bridging or installing client specific products within Vision’s timber panels. These insulating materials can either be fitted in the factory or during on site erection, depending upon the timber frame system selected.

Below are some of the insulating materials Vision use with their timber frame panel systems.

Vapour Control Layers

Multifoil Insulation Vapour Control

HControl Hybrid is predominantly used by Vision as the vapour control layer installed to the internal face of the external wall panels (prior to plasterboard).  The product offers both vapour control and insulation therefore, reducing installation steps as well as the amount of insulation required within the actual timber frame panel to achieve specific U Values. The insulating properties of this product offer excellent thermal performance to the entire timber frame wall and with our closed panel system can be factory fitted and therefore avoid potential damage that sometimes can occur during early work on site.

Protect VC Foil

As an alternative vapour control layer Vision can also offer the Protect VC Foil which again is highly reflective and offers thermal efficiency to the entire wall construction. Although this product doesn’t offer insulation within its build up, it is very robust and is less likely to be damaged on site.

Thermal Insulation

SuperQuilt YBS

The SuperQuilt YBS multi-layer insulation blanket () can be used for walls, roofs and floors. Incorporating insulation and a highly reflective external face means the SuperQuilt product offers a high thermal resistance as well as vapour control. Again, it is easy to install and can be fitted within our factory to speed up the on-site construction process.

Hybris Insulation

The honeycomb design  Hybris Insulation can be used for walls, roofs and ceilings. The insulation is fitted within the timber frame panels which can be completed off-site in our factory or on-site prior to the first fix services. The thickness of the insulation can vary from 50mm to 205mm depending on the application. Vision as standard use 105mm for within the panels and the HControl to offer a U Value of 0.18 with a brick external finish. The insulation offers air tightness, thermal efficiency, acoustic performance as well as another vapour barrier within the panel and cavities which is effective in both winter and summer.

Earthwool Insulation

Knauf Earthwool insulation offers Vision’s timber frame walls an alternative to the above products. It is friction fitted between the timber studs which closes joints and prevents air movement through or around the insulation. The installation of this particular insulation is much quicker and easier to install (compared to rigid insulation that requires more precise cutting) and is completed off-site in our factory. The insulation has like the others, excellent thermal efficiency, acoustic performance and non-combustible.

PIR Insulation

Celotex insulation board can be used for a number of different applications within a timber frame construction. The 120mm-140mm insulation is used within the external wall panels which is fitted within our factory for precision of installation as this is required with this particular insulation. There are a wide range of thicknesses for this insulation (12mm-200mm) which means they can be added to the external face of the panels prior to cladding to offer much lower U Values without effecting the width of the walls for the construction. The insulation has reflective facings enhancing thermal efficiency within cavity air spaces providing long-term energy savings for buildings.

Breather Membranes

Reflective Breather Membrane

The emissivity of a material is the ability of its surface to emit energy by radiation. The lower the emissivity value, the more reflective the material is – and the better the material performs as a thermal insulation layer in combination with an air gap. With an emissivity value of <0.05 reflective breather membranes improve thermal comfort and enhances airtightness in any type of building. Used in conjunction with Hybris insulations it increases thermal performance further and helps to deliver low U-values.

Protect TF200 Thermo

Protect TF200 Thermo is installed to the external face of the OSB board which faces the external cladding to a building. It has a reflective surface which improves the thermal performance of the final wall build up. As this membrane is outside facing it has to be durable and withstand works continuing on site after the timber frame has installed, so this material is very robust and has good nail tear resistance. We do advise our customers to not leave the external face of a timber frame construction (even with this product installed) left open to the elements for longer than 3 months.

Actis Boost’R Hybrid

Actis Boost’R Hybrid Breather Membrane is a thin multifoil with built in breather membrane. The product benefits from additional insulation, which can reduce the requirement for insulation within the panel, whilst still achieving low U Values. The membrane is naturally waterproof and airtight preventing any risk of condensation. This product paired with Hybris insulation and HControl Vapour Control offers extremely low U Values.
