When undertaking a big project such as this, planning and preparation is of the utmost importance, especially when you’re operating on a tight budget and strict deadlines. The last thing you want is to run into obstacles that cost you time and money, so thorough planning can help you avoid unwanted setbacks.

Vision Development is here for you during all the steps of your timber frame self-build journey. We can partner with you and supply you with timber frames as well as offering our professional advice and assistance throughout your project.

Site Survey, Soil Sample

  • Site survey – You must have your building site surveyed before you begin. This not only ensures your site is in the correct location to build upon, it also gives you the opportunity to discover if your building plans are in adherence to your local planning approval. Piers Maisey, our Design Partner, conducts site surveys (he can be contacted at colstonestates@mail.com).
  • Soil samples – The type of soil at your site, whether clay, silt, sand, or something else, will determine your construction decisions. We do not recommend commencing construction without identifying the soil type present on your building site.  This information allows the groundworks price to be fixed.  Vision Development use Terramech to take and test soil samples (they can be contacted on 0118 943 9910 or at contact@terramech.co.uk).
